Art & Design

Intent

To engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Implementation

We engage pupils through practical tasks that cover a wide range of media and art styles. This is to give pupils a broad range of experiences within art and equip them with the skills to be able to create and execute their own style. We currently offer the opportunity for pupils to complete a Bronze Art Award which encourages pupils to appreciate and partake in the artistic world around them. This can then be built into a Silver Arts Award for pupils that might be looking to pursue a career in this field.

Impact

Art nurtures inventiveness as it engages children in a process that aids in the development of self-esteem, self-discipline, cooperation, and self-motivation. Teaching through the arts can present difficult concepts visually, making them easier to understand. Working in the arts helps learners to develop creative problem-solving skills. We aim to encourage an understanding of careers in the arts world including tattoo artistry, fine art, illustration, art therapy and more.
